with Miranda Marcussen, Keara Kathleen Voight, Iethan Harraington, Alex Weis

Prisms, Mira Loma High School’s award winning annual literary magazine, features, poetry, prose, art and photography from some of the Sacramento area’s best creative students. Since 1963, this magazine is one California’s oldest student-run high school publications.

Miranda Marcussen learned the love of reading at a young age; her oldest brother taught her how to read at the age of 3. As a toddler, she stated that her dream was to be a children’s book illustrator; however, by first grade this had shifted to becoming an author, as she frequently told anybody who would listen. She was encouraged by her mother and brothers who were bookworms themselves, and who often read aloud to her. With an old Macintosh desktop computer she received from Santa the Christmas of 2000, Miranda began writing her first short stories and poetry.

Fifth and last of Lynette Voight’s children, Keara Kathleen Voight was born April 1st 1997 in Yuba City. She began writing at a young age, fueled by magic and wonder, as her older sister, Emily, read her book after countless book. What started as just simple lines in a journal, or a few words on her arm, transformed into writing for hours on end. Now a sophomore at Mira Loma High, Keara is working on a novel set in medieval Europe about a man named Lucien, but she continues to work on short fiction and poetry. In addition to her writing, Keara also pursues her passion for singing, which gives her a different way to tell her stories.

Iethan Harrington is a senior at Mira Loma High School. He loves to draw, but his second favorite thing to do is writing.  He started writing in middle school in the eighth grade and it was about superheroes and powers that they possessed. As a high school freshman, Iethan wrote a short story about love, and he recently completed a poem about my nightmares.

Alex Weis was born and raised across the street from the suburbs of Roseville. Enthralled by fairy tales and legends, she enjoyed storytelling at a young age. She currently spends her time singing in the Sacramento Children’s Chorus, writing, and being a general dork.
