James Moose is a retired lawyer and Navy veteran of World War II with interests in politics, history, and preservation of the health of the planet, as well as poetry. His taste in the latter runs to traditional forms, and he relies strongly on iambs to convey his message.
Of Time and Light
The wonders of the world are numbered still,
as finite is a concept all men know ––
Elysium a place we cannot go ––
and wisdom is a pail we cannot fill:
too late we learn the brevity of light ––
too soon the fleeting, numbered years run out,
yet life is worth the candle, do not doubt,
for we can be exalted in their flight.
Danyen Powell runs two family businesses and lives in Davis, California. He’s a building contractor and also runs a carpet and upholstery cleaning service. He mainly writes sparse poems that are image driven and believes in reading as many of the great poets from around the world as he can find. He has attended the Sacramento Poetry Center’s Tuesday night workshop for over twenty years and is the current facilitator for the workshop.
nothing left
no trace
or ache
of something
broken
no endless
days
no slow-
turning
the gentle
page
no huge sun
to squander
not a speck—
much less
